The Last Supper and the Crucifixion

by Gary Wesman

The new Adult Faith Education group meeting weekly at St. Andrew Catholic Church will reach the climax of Jesus’ ministry on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Via DVD members and newcomers will hear Catholic writer Brant Pitre speak of the Last Supper and the Crucifixion. It is the fourth part of Pitre’s six-part “Why We Worship” series, which the new group chose as its starting point this summer.

“It’s not just how much Jesus suffered that atones for our sins; it’s how much he loved.” That is what Pitre said of the Last Supper and Crucifixion in online talks accompanying his 2016 book, The Case for Jesus.

Adult Faith Education meets every Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Arundel Hall on the church grounds. Newcomers are welcome, especially fellow parishioners from Sacred Heart and St. Paul churches. No reservations or sign-ups are needed.

So far a dozen or so people have been regulars at Adult Faith Education. The segments of “Why We Worship” connect but each part can be easily understood by itself. No one who hasn’t seen the first three parts of the series will feel lost in midstream listening to “The Last Supper and the Crucifixion.” Outlines are available at the meeting. Excerpts and outlines are available for free beforehand on brantpitre.com.

Adult Faith Education is scheduled to take up the fifth part of the series, “The Biblical Roots of the Mass,” on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
